European stock markets were mixed on Wednesday, as attention turned to a speech by US President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum later that day.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell by about 0.1% to 602.15 points, Britain's FTSE index held steady at 10,120.89 points, Germany's DAX index declined by about 0.2% to 24,647.43 points, while France's CAC 40 index remained unchanged at 8,067.95 points.
The US president's speech comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and its European allies over Danish territory in Greenland, which Trump is seeking to buy.
On Tuesday, Trump declined to elaborate on the steps he would take to achieve his goal of annexing Greenland to the United States, simply telling a reporter: You'll find out later.
Trump had previously not ruled out using military force to take control of Greenland, and threatened to impose new tariffs on a group of European countries if they objected to his plan.
Consumer prices in Britain rose more than expected in December, while inflation in the closely watched services sector came in line with expectations, according to official data released on Wednesday.
