Tesla Inc. has likely cut its global workforce to just 121,000, including temporary workers, a report has revealed, indicating that the famous carmaker has reduced its workforce by more than 14 percent this year.
A report published by CNBC, which was reviewed by Sky News Arabia, explained that the number of employees mentioned, which is about 121,000, is not from accurate or official data, but from the number of people on the email list that was sent to everyone at Tesla during the current month of June.
According to the report, Tesla CEO, the famous billionaire Elon Musk, sent an email to all employees in the company stating: Over the next few weeks, Tesla will conduct a comprehensive review of providing stock option grants for exceptional performance.
The electric car company announced layoffs in April, when Musk sent a company-wide email telling employees that Tesla would lay off about 10 percent of its staff.
A statement to Bloomberg at the time explained that Musk was seeking to reduce the number of employees by 20 percent, or more.
Musk said during the company's first-quarter earnings call later in April, according to CNBC, that Tesla was running between 25 percent and 30 percent inefficiency.
The company also stated, according to the report, in its data for the fourth quarter of last year, that the number of Tesla employees worldwide reached 140,473 thousand employees by the end of last December, a number that represents employees who receive fixed salaries and hourly employees.
The report explained that the email list for everyone, which includes temporary workers, has about 121,000 employees, which means that Tesla has reduced the total number of employees by at least about 14 percent since the end of 2023.
