The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority succeeded in preventing 34,936 electronic attacks during the month of March.


According to Al-Bayan newspaper, the authority stated that the attacks varied between malware by 59%, which are programs that are created for the purpose of destroying or affecting systems and programs or obtaining powers in them illegally. Malware includes viruses, malicious ransomware, spyware, and other operations. Look for security vulnerabilities.


The attacks included 34% of software errors in the systems that can be exploited by criminals to tamper with the systems and influence them, in addition to 6% of electronic phishing attacks, which is a process in which the criminal assumes the character of companies or trusted entities to trick the user to deliver his private data such as the password and the bank card , Via fake messages or websites.


Experts in the telecommunications sector told the statement that there is a noticeable increase in attempts at fraud, phishing and fraud due to the Corona pandemic crisis, with increased demand for online purchases and the use of electronic services in banks and for purchases from stores.


The commission had recently announced its success in preventing 52,671 attempted cyber attacks during the last January and February, bringing the total number of attempted attacks to which the country was exposed in the first quarter of this year to about 87,607 attempts.
