The British government had confirmed earlier that it would ban, along with the United States, Japan and Canada, any new imports of Russian gold as part of measures aimed at punishing Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.
The ban is scheduled to come into force soon and will apply to newly mined gold.
The British government pointed out that this would not affect gold of Russian origin, which was previously exported from Russia.
