Germany doubted the feasibility of setting a ceiling for Russian gas prices and considered it a political illusion and that its mechanism would not succeed.

According to Arabiya.net, European sources stated that 90% of the agreement to set a ceiling for Russian gas has been completed.

For her part, the European Union Energy Commissioner said today, Monday, that the agreement on the maximum gas price in the European bloc is within reach.

Cadre Simpson made the remarks as she arrived at a meeting of EU energy ministers in Brussels, where they will try to approve the policy.

Simpson said: I strongly believe that the agreement is within reach .. Of course it requires a very strong spirit of concession on the part of everyone.

Twelve countries, including Belgium, Italy, Poland and Slovenia, are pushing for a significant reduction in the planned European Union ceiling for gas prices, while the bloc is striving to reach an agreement on this measure.

The European Union countries have been arguing for months about whether to set a ceiling on gas prices, but they have not bridged the gap in the divergent views so far.

Gas prices have risen in Europe this year after Russia cut gas shipments in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine, driving up fuel costs and growing inflation.
