US President Donald Trump signed a new fiscal stimulus package of about $ 900 billion on Sunday, days after raising doubts about its future as he had objected to some of its provisions.

The US government would be heading to closure from tomorrow, Tuesday, in case Trump did not sign the legislation.

Trump refused to sign the legislation for several days after receiving it, bypassing the deadline for signing on Saturday.

The US President called on lawmakers last week to increase the stimulus checks that are due to go to most Americans to $ 2,000 from the $ 600 level.

Democrats have embraced President Trump's stance, as the House of Representatives intends to vote on a proposal to increase payments to $ 2,000 later Monday.
