The vote was 81 to 11, the first of three possible rounds of voting paving the way for the Senate to pass the funding requested by the administration of US President Joe Biden; To maintain the continuity of aid to the Kyiv government nearly three months after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The House of Representatives approved the aid on May 10, but the resolution faltered in the Senate after Republican Senator Rand Paul refused to allow a quick vote on it.
