Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin announced that it plans to launch two separate tokens to stimulate the use of renewable energy.

In an announcement to Reuters, Thursday morning, the exchange said it had signed an agreement with Comerc, one of Brazil's major retail energy providers, to develop renewable energy tokens. /p>

Mercado Bitcoin and Commerc are seeking to implement two types of tokens. The first, scheduled to be launched in 2022, will be linked to a cashback program for solar power generation.

Currently, COMMERC customers receive up to 15% to 20% of the value of their electricity bills as cashback if they choose to convert to solar energy.

The second token will be linked to certificates documenting energy consumption from renewable sources.

Matthews Nogueira, CEO of Nouri, which distributes energy to Comerc, said in a statement to Reuters: The token can be treated like any other currency, but it has An additional benefit is that it is a token that represents a renewable generation.

The exchange has processed the equivalent of more than $5 billion in cryptocurrency trades in US dollars since January.
