The UAE granted a license to operate the second unit at the Barakah nuclear plant.
According to ArabiaNet, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation said in a statement that Nawah Energy Company has succeeded in reaching the first plant reactor in the Barakah plant to 100% of its production capacity.
Barakah will produce 1,400 megawatts of energy, making it the largest single source of electrical energy in the UAE.
It should be noted that in November 2020 the UAE announced the graduation of the first group of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plants Management Certification Program, which included 7 specialized Emirati competencies.
Upon completion of the project's four stations, it is expected to provide 25% of the country's energy needs, which will contribute to reducing the sector’s carbon footprint in the country.
The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is located in the west of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The project is valued at $ 25 billion. It contains 4 reactors that will provide environmentally friendly energy, while the operational life of one reactor is 60 years.
The Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plants in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are the cornerstone of the UAE's peaceful nuclear program.
Since the launch of the UAE's peaceful nuclear program in 2009, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has cooperated closely with international institutions and bodies specialized in the nuclear energy sector, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency and the International Association of Nuclear Operators, and within the framework of the requirements of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation.
