Saudi Arabia intends to support its telecommunications network by offering additional frequencies for the fifth generation technologies during the period from 2021 to 2023.

According to Arabiya Net, in the context of implementing the initiatives of the National Frequency Spectrum Strategy and implementing the plan to enable commercial and innovative uses of the frequency spectrum 2021-2023, the Communications and Information Technology Commission issued a distribution and regulation document Frequency bands for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) updated version,

This comes in line with the strategic shift in the authority's role as a digital regulator and an extension of its efforts to support and enable the Kingdom's transformation into a digital society.

The document includes specifying more than an additional 4 GHz for fifth generation technologies, in addition to setting a time plan for offering these frequencies by holding two auctions during the period from 2021-2023 AD; To make the Kingdom at the forefront of the world in providing frequencies for mobile communication systems.

The provision of these frequencies will contribute to supporting public communications networks in the Kingdom, spreading fifth generation technologies, and increasing Internet speeds in the Kingdom.

The document includes regulations for managing the specific frequency bands for international mobile communications systems; Including the adoption of the latest tools to manage the frequency spectrum for these bands, which in turn will contribute to the dissemination of different use cases of 5G technologies and enhance its economic value.

These tools include secondary spectrum markets, in addition to the adoption of the diluted spectrum licensing, which allows access to the largest number of users of the spectrum resource and promotes its optimal use.
