Mercedes Motors has about $2.2 billion in assets in Russia that could be at risk if Moscow decides to confiscate the assets of foreign companies that have left the country.

According to Arabiya Net, Mercedes-Benz is among the companies that may be affected by Russian measures to tighten restrictions on foreign companies that have decided to leave the country.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office announced, on Friday, tightening restrictions on foreign companies that decided to leave the country against the backdrop of the invasion of Ukraine.

The attorney general said in a statement that prosecutors will impose strict control over compliance with labor law, including terms of employment contracts, salary payment procedures and sizing.

Among Mercedes' assets at risk is a factory outside Moscow that opened in 2019.

The revelation comes a day after Russia presented proposed measures to take temporary control of departing companies where foreign ownership exceeds 25%.

If implemented, Russian courts would be able to freeze assets, giving companies the option to restore operations or sell their stake.
