Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that the completion rate of the hydroelectric station project with stored hydropower technology, which is being implemented by DEWA in Hatta, has reached 58.48%.
This station in Hatta is the first of its kind in the Arab Gulf region, and the project investments amount to 1.421 billion dirhams, as the project is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2024, according to the Emirati newspaper Al Khaleej.
The hydroelectric station project with the stored water energy technology in Hatta comes as part of the authority’s efforts to achieve the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and within the framework of the comprehensive development plan for the development of the Hatta region launched by the ruler of Dubai to meet the needs of the Hatta development region. Social, economic, environmental and innovative job opportunities for citizens of Hatta.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inspected the progress of work on the station project. During his tour, he was briefed on the construction site of the hydroelectric station, and listened to a detailed explanation about the progress of work on the project.
Al Tayer's visit also included an inspection of the construction works in the power generation area and the upper dam of the project, where the water intakes in the Hatta Dam related to the power generators have been completed and the construction of the main wall of the upper dam with a height of 72 meters of compressed concrete (RCC) has been completed. Works related to the 1.2-kilometer water tunnel linking the two dams, where the concrete lining of the water tunnel has been completed.
The Managing Director and CEO of (DEWA) indicated that the hydroelectric station project with the hydro-energy technology stored in the Hatta Dam comes as part of the Authority's efforts to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Carbon Neutral Strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai, which aims to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from energy sources.
