Russia's state-owned energy company Gazprom has said that China will pay for Russian gas supplies in local currencies, namely the Russian ruble and the Chinese yuan.
On Tuesday, Gazprom and the state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed additional agreements to the current agreement between Russia and China to supply Beijing with Russian gas.
Last February, the two countries signed a long-term agreement to supply China with Russian natural gas via a new pipeline, and the project's maximum capacity, when completed, will reach 48 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
This year, Gazprom cut off natural gas supplies to some of its customers in Europe, after many of them refused Moscow's request to pay in rubles for gas supplies, as part of the repercussions of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
