Qatar Energy intends to announce a deal with the Chinese Hudong-Zhonghua Company to build eight liquefied natural gas carriers worth $2.4 billion, according to local media.

The order comes within the second phase of Qatar Energy's program to build a marine fleet of liquefied natural gas tankers, amounting to 100 new gas tankers.

The new fleet will support the increased production of liquefied natural gas from the North Field expansion projects in Qatar and the Golden Pass in America.

Earlier this month, Qatar announced the distribution of the second and final batch of free incentive shares to shareholders of Mesaieed Petrochemical Company who met the eligibility conditions.
