Sources reported to Reuters that the German airline Lufthansa had reduced its fleet by 130 aircraft to cope with the repercussions of the Corona virus crisis.
This means a reduction of at least 30 aircraft over the previous plans of the airline, which received government assistance in order to continue operating.
Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spauer told staff Monday that company management would take action on the move next week.
and they clarified that the number of Lufthansa employees - which was about 140,000 before the coronavirus crisis - is likely to shrink by a fifth.
This equates to 28,000 jobs, a slight increase over the previous plan, which included the elimination of 26,000 jobs.
A Lufthansa spokesperson declined to comment, saying only that no decision had been made.
Lufthansa received government aid of 9 billion euros ($ 10.7 billion) in June. The company said last month that it expects to work at about 50 percent of the capacity by the end of 2020 and then reach two-thirds of last year's level in 2021.
