The Roads and Transport Authority signed a contract to extend the operation and maintenance of the Dubai Metro with the British company Serco Limited until September 2021, at a value of 680 million dirhams, equivalent to 140 million pounds.

According to the Emirates News Agency, the new contract includes the operation and maintenance of the 2020 route, which includes extending the red line to the site of Expo 2020 with a length of 15 km and includes 7 stations, including 5 overhead stations and two stations Two expenditures, which is expected to start trialing in February 2020.

The length of the Dubai metro network is currently 75 km and will rise to 90 km with the completion of the opening of the 2020 lane and the network accommodates more than 120 trains during peak hours.

The contract was signed by HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, while Serco Company was represented by Robert Soms, CEO of Serco Group in the presence of His Excellency Baroness Rona Faberhead British Secretary of State for Trade and Export Promotion and His Excellency Patrick Moody, UK Ambassador to the State.

HE Mattar Al Tayer said that Serco company has achieved high performance indicators in the operation of the Dubai Metro, where the average availability rate for the service was 99.9% and the accuracy of dates by up to 99.8% In addition to setting a record number of flights reached 204 million trips in 2018 ... indicating that the provision of the Roads and Transport Authority to the latest modern technologies in the field of train operation contributed to achieving these indicators.

He added that, under the contract, the company will provide operation and maintenance services for the Dubai Metro in its red and green lines, as well as the 2020 track, which includes extending the red line for the Expo site and all the assets of the metro system, including Trains, railways and stations, as well as providing passenger transportation services at a high level, in line with the daily changing requirements in the number of passengers on the metro network.

He pointed out that the contract also includes the operation and maintenance of the tariff system for the Dubai Metro and the collection of revenue for the sale and filling of Nol cards in the metro stations in addition to providing jobs for citizens and training them and achieving a specific percentage of Emiratisation, confirming the authority’s keenness to qualify the national cadres and transfer of international expertise in the field of operating and maintaining the railway systems, which is one of the new areas in the region.

He explained that assigning the operation and maintenance of the Dubai Metro to specialized international companies is due to several reasons, the most important of which is that these tasks require experience and know-how in scheduling the work of the metro lines in addition to experience in all The specialized technical and mechanical systems on which the metro system relies for its operation, as well as the administrative experience required for the excellent operation of the system.
