The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) plans to increase its production of natural gas to 7.54 billion cubic feet per day during the current fiscal year 2021/2020, about 15% more than the production of the last fiscal year, according to a report To Reuters.

EGAS, established in 2001, is the entity responsible for natural gas activities in Egypt.

Egypt's daily production of natural gas in 2020/2019 was about 6.550 billion cubic feet, according to the report.

Egypt is witnessing a boom in gas production thanks to the Zohr field in the Mediterranean, and discoveries in northern Alexandria and the Nile Delta, and it plans to turn gas discoveries into an energy center in the region and aspires to export to Europe.

Egypt has demarcated its maritime borders with many countries in the region, led by Cyprus and Greece in recent years, to support research and exploration work without facing disputes.

and supporting the discovery of the Zohr field, Egypt's self-sufficiency of natural gas, as the estimated reserves of the field reach 30 trillion cubic feet, and its production represents about 40% of Egypt's current total gas production.

The Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, said in an interview with Sky News Arabia a year ago that Egypt had invested about $ 11.5 billion to develop the Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Mediterranean accounted for 62% of the total gas production in Egypt during the fiscal year 2019/2020, followed by the Western Desert by 19%, the Delta region by 18%, and the Gulf of Suez, Sinai and Eastern Desert regions with the remaining 1% .

According to the annual report issued by EGAS, total natural gas consumption during the fiscal year 2019/2020 amounted to 2,106 billion cubic feet per day, with an estimated daily average of 5754 million cubic feet.

The electricity sector is the largest gas-consuming sector, as its consumption reached about 1272.8 billion cubic feet, with a daily average of 3477.6 million cubic feet, and by 60.44% of the total domestic consumption.

The industrial sector consumes about 479 billion cubic feet of gas, at a rate of 1308.9 million cubic feet per day, and by 22.75% of the total domestic consumption.

The consumption of the petroleum sector and gas derivatives reached 234 billion cubic feet of gas, with a daily average of 639.4 million cubic feet per day, or 11.1% of the total domestic consumption.

The household sector consumes about 99.3 billion cubic feet of gas, at a daily average of 271.3 million cubic feet per day, and 4.7% of the total domestic consumption.

The consumption of the auto supply sector reached 20.84 billion cubic feet of gas, at a daily rate of 57 million cubic feet per day, and by 1% of the total consumption.
