The Egyptian Minister of Health, Hala Zayed, said that her country had contracted 100 million doses of Corona virus vaccines through different companies.
During an interview with the (Al-Hekaya) program on (MBC Egypt), Zayed added that the vaccines that were contracted include 40 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharma vaccine and 20 One million doses of astraznica vaccine can be increased and 40 million doses of Gavi Alliance.
and indicated that this number will be sufficient for about 50 million people, which is equivalent to nearly half of the population.
The minister stated that the funds for the purchase of vaccines are available according to the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and that Vacera company is currently negotiating the manufacture of the Coronavirus vaccine Locally.
She revealed that the Astrazhnica vaccine will start supplying it during the third or fourth week of this month of January, and that negotiations with the company are in their final stages after the approval of the Drug Authority and the Council Ministers on the technical and financial aspects, and the financial needs have been provided to purchase Corona vaccines from multiple companies.
Zayed indicated that it was agreed with the Astrazhnica company to supply 20 million doses of the Corona vaccine and could be increased.
She said that the Egyptian Medicines Authority agreed yesterday to license the Chinese vaccine, Sinopharma, for emergency use in Egypt. Last week, it signed with the Chinese ambassador in Cairo the supply of 40 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, as well as its manufacture through Vaxira.
and on the possibility of agreeing with Pfizer to use its vaccine in Egypt, Zayed said that the ministry is still negotiating with Pfizer International over its vaccine, and that it has held meetings a few days ago with representatives of the company Fires America, Dubai and Egypt, in the presence of the scientific committee supervising the fight against Corona virus, and representatives of the Drug and Purchase Authority to consult on the supply of the company's vaccines, which will be taken steps regarding after the company submits its financial offer.
She revealed that the Coronavirus vaccine will not be free for everyone. The Long Live Egypt Fund will bear the cost for people who are unable, and it will be linked to systems of solidarity and dignity, adding that it is not necessary. Free for everyone who is able to buy the vaccine will pay for it as long as they have the ability to purchase it.
Minister Hala Zayed stated that the Corona virus vaccinations will be conducted periodically afterwards, just like the seasonal flu vaccines.
