ACWA Power Saudi Arabia will build a thermal plant and two wind farms in Uzbekistan at a total cost of $ 2.5 billion under the terms of a public-private partnership.

According to Arabiyanet, a statement by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan stated: The Ministry of Energy and ACWA Power held an inaugural ceremony to start the construction of the Serdarya Thermal Power Station with a total capacity of 1500 megawatts, indicating The project, which is valued at $ 1.2 billion and has an energy efficiency of 60%, will save twice as much natural gas consumption.

The statement added that the Ministry and ACWA Power also signed an investment agreement and agreements to purchase electricity within the construction of two wind power plants with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt.

The cost of building two plants in the Bukhara and Navoi regions is about $ 1.3 billion. All three stations will be built under the terms of a public-private partnership.

The statement clarified that the implementation of these three projects is a guarantee of increasing the required energy in Uzbekistan, where by 2030 it is expected that the electric energy consumption will reach 110 billion kilowatt hours.

The power system in Uzbekistan has 48 power plants with a total capacity of more than 12.4 gigawatts, for 10 thermal power stations of 10.6 gigawatts. The rest of the electrical energy is generated from hydroelectric power stations and independent thermal power stations for industrial enterprises. Electricity production in the country increased at the end of last year by 5% compared to 2019, to 66.4 billion kilowatt hours, and consumption to 69.1 billion kilowatt hours, an increase of 6.1%.
