Foreign investors' dealings in the Saudi stock market witnessed net purchases during the year 2023, in addition to an increase in the value of their ownership in the main market by more than 15% compared to the previous year.

A combined flow statistic showed that foreign investors in the Saudi stock market achieved net purchases worth 14.16 billion riyals ($3.78 billion) during the year 2023.

Net flows decreased during 2023 by 67.4% on an annual basis. It reached 43.49 billion riyals ($11.6 billion) in 2022.

July recorded the highest net inflows by foreigners into Saudi stocks in 2023. At 3.95 billion riyals ($1.05 billion), followed by April with a net value of 3.61 billion riyals ($961.87), then November with a net value of 3.16 billion riyals ($842.67 million).

The entire year's transactions witnessed net inflows from foreign investors in the Saudi stock market, with the exception of October. Which recorded a net sale on their part of 3.29 billion riyals ($876 million).

$75.13 billion in total foreign purchases

Total purchases by investors in the Saudi stock market recorded a decline of 11.1% in 2023 on an annual basis, with a decline of 35.22 billion riyals ($9.39 billion) compared to their total purchases in the previous year.

Foreigners' total purchases in the Saudi stock market during 2023 amounted to about 281.73 billion riyals ($75.13 billion), compared to their total purchases in 2022, which amounted to 316.95 billion riyals ($84.52 billion).

November recorded the highest monthly purchasing levels from foreign investors in 2023, at a value of 29.25 billion riyals ($7.8 billion), while April recorded the lowest level of purchasing, at a value of 16.49 billion riyals ($4.39 billion).

Likewise, the value of total foreign sales decreased by 2.15% in 2023 on an annual basis, to 267.56 billion riyals ($71.35 billion), compared to 273.46 billion riyals ($72.92 billion) in 2022, declining by about 5.89 billion riyals ($1.57 billion). ).

Foreign ownership of Saudi stocks will rise by $14.4 billion by the end of 2023

The value of foreign ownership of shares listed on the Tadawul main market increased by 15.6% at the end of 2023 compared to its value at the end of the previous year.

The value of shares owned by foreign investors reached 400.62 billion riyals ($106.83 billion) by the end of December 2023, the highest level it has reached in 20 months.

Foreign ownership reached 346.57 billion riyals ($92.42 billion) at the end of December 2022, increasing by the end of the same month of the current year by 54.05 billion riyals ($14.41 billion).

Foreign ownership increased by 8% at the end of last December compared to November 2023, by the end of which it amounted to 370.92 billion riyals ($98.91 billion), increasing by 29.7 billion riyals ($7.92 billion) on a monthly basis.

It is noteworthy that the market value of foreign investors’ shares in the Saudi stock market reached its peak at the end of April 2022. When it ended, it amounted to 421.87 billion riyals ($112.5 billion).
