U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.24%, the S&P 500 gained 0.20%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.03% or 3.58 points to trade at 179.99 at the close. Meanwhile, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 1.95% or 0.95 points to end at 49.48 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.41% or 0.56 points to 40.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which fell 1.21% or 3.95 points to trade at 321.44 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) fell 0.62% or 2.16 points to end at 343.48 and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) closed down 0.61% or 2.56 points to 418.47.
On the other hand, the best performance on the S&P 500 was recorded by DexCom (NASDAQ:DXCM), which rose by 3.16% to 74.65, Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which also continued to rise by 3.12% to close at 377.23, and Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which rose by 3.06% to close at 40.40.
The worst performers today were Amcor Inc (NYSE:AMCR), which fell 3.69% to 10.45, VF Corp (NYSE:VFC), which lost 2.85% to settle at 16.88 and Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE:CMG), which was down 2.78% to 52.47 at the close.
On the other hand, the best performers on the NASDAQ were Eightco Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OCTO), which rose 487.42% to 1.63, Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which rose 268.54% to 17.69 and GeoVax Labs Inc (NASDAQ:GOVX) which rose 110.75% to 7.06.
The worst performers today were Moringa Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:SLXN), which fell 79.32% to 1.95, Hyzon Motors Inc (NASDAQ:HYZN), which lost 27.75% to settle at 0.05 and Avalon Globocare Corp (NASDAQ:ALBT), which fell 25.96% to 0.33 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1,743 to 1,067, while 107 ended unchanged. On the Nasdaq, 1,875 stocks advanced, 1,428 declined and 144 stocks held steady.
Moringa Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:SLXN) stock fell to a new all-time low, falling 79.32% or 7.48 to 1.95. Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) stock rose to a new 52-week high, rising 268.54% or 12.89 to 17.69. Hyzon Motors Inc (NASDAQ:HYZN) stock fell to a new all-time low, falling 27.75% or 0.02 to 0.05.
The S&P 500 Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.82% to 14.80.
Gold futures for December delivery rose 2.14% or 53.35 to $2,545.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, September WTI crude oil futures fell 1.88% or 1.47 to $76.69 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.59% or 1.29 to $79.75 a barrel.
The EUR/USD pair added 0.47% and traded at 1.10 levels, while the USD/JPY pair continued to decline by 1.11% and reached 147.62 levels.
The dollar index futures were trading down 0.51% at 102.28.
