The US administration is planning to impose new sanctions on Iran before the presidential elections scheduled for November 3.
According to Arabiya Net, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that the possible US sanctions on Iran are aimed at strengthening the maximum pressure exerted by Washington on Tehran.
The Wall Street Journal considered that strengthening sanctions against Iran prevents any future attempts to render them ineffective.
The newspaper quoted US officials as saying that the Iranians targeted with possible new sanctions had previously been issued sanctions.
An American official also told the newspaper that these new sanctions will force international bodies to reconsider their relationship with Iran.
According to the newspaper, the new sanctions will target some sectors that Washington believes that Tehran is using to finance terrorist activities, including the petrochemical and mineral industries, especially the energy sector.
Washington imposed a series of sanctions on Tehran in the wake of US President Donald Trump's decision in 2018 to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal that Iran concluded with six major world powers.

Also, the US envoy on the Iranian and Venezuelan files, Elliot Abrams, stressed that this pressure strategy will remain until the Iranian behavior changes, whoever is the next US president.
