Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after a 23-year hiatus, Ukraine has resumed operation of a railway to neighboring Moldova and that it will transport 10 million tons of goods annually.
Although Zelensky did not specify the types of goods, Ukraine is eager to find new ways to export millions of tons of grain stuck in the Russian war.
The 22-kilometer railway runs from Berezin in western Ukraine to Basarabska in Moldova.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kobrakov said that the railway will offer an alternative route from the Black Sea port of Odessa.
Under a deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey with Russia and Ukraine, ships carrying grain began leaving Odessa and other Ukrainian ports.
