The United Arab Emirates announced the signing of an agreement with Germany on Sunday, under which the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), owned by the Abu Dhabi government, will export the first shipment of liquefied natural gas to Germany.

The first natural gas shipment will be delivered in late 2022, to be used in the trial operation of the floating natural gas import terminal in the German city of Brunsbüttel, according to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Under the agreement, the UAE's ADNOC will allocate additional shipments of LNG to its customers in Germany, which will be delivered in 2023.

The natural gas export agreement between the UAE and Germany comes within the framework of an agreement to accelerate energy security and industrial growth between the two countries, which was also signed yesterday, in the presence of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Olaf Schulz, Chancellor of Germany.

The gas agreement comes at a time when European countries are seeking to find alternatives to Russian natural gas after its loss after the West imposed sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.

Also on Sunday, the UAE's ADNOC signed other agreements with customers in Germany, under which the company will export trial shipments of low-carbon ammonia to them. The first trial shipment of low-carbon ammonia produced by Abu Dhabi arrived in the port of Hamburg, Germany, early this month.

(ADNOC) also reached an agreement with Wilhelm Heuer GmbH, which operates in the field of petroleum products distribution in Germany, on terms for the supply of up to 250 thousand tons per month of diesel fuel during 2023, after ADNOC completed the first delivery process. Direct shipment of diesel from its production to Germany this September.
