The Mobile World Congress started in Barcelona, Spain, the largest global gathering of companies in that vital sector, days ago, and the fifth generation sparked with it in the Gulf countries, foremost of which is Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
On the Kingdom level, Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah bin Amer Al-Sawahha said the Kingdom is taking great steps towards commercial operation for the fifth generation service during the current year.
He also indicated during the international conference that the Kingdom aims to add 400 MHz in the mid-range equivalent to 3.5 GHz for commercial operators by the end of February 2019, and is looking to be the first in the countries of the region and the race always to activate this technology, according to press reports.
He expected the fifth generation network to contribute by 2030 by pumping more than $ 8 billion in revenues to the telecommunications market, more than $ 19 billion in the Kingdom's GDP, and creating about 20,000 new jobs in the field.
The provision of the fifth generation network means opening a wide field for many of the advanced technologies that rely on it such as the Internet of Things, , virtual reality, robots, smart cities, and other modern future technologies.
In the same footsteps, Saudi Telecom STC signed three major agreements within a project , the fifth generation ambition to publish the fifth generation network and develop innovative services and solutions related to the latest generation of communication networks and technologies, with each of the partners Nokia, Ericsson and Huawei
For the fifth generation, on the UAE side, the arms of the federal government did not falter, as it announced that it signed Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) and Huawei signed a strategic partnership to deploy the nation's fifth generation integrated network solutions this year.
The partnership took place during the activities of the World Mobile Congress, which will last 4 days, with the participation of 2000 companies and 100,000 visitors and professionals in the mobile communications sector.
The fifth generation network will make an unprecedented shift in the number of applications and solutions, including raising the capabilities of artificial intelligence and improving mobility systems.
The fifth generation technology will enable high speed data transmission with low latency in communication operations as well as enhance machine to machine connections across the UAE.
The fifth generation networks are a new technology of networks, which exceeds the speed of the fourth generation currently used in most countries of the world by about 100 times, and is also characterized by a wider range of coverage, which represents the number of devices and data that can be dealt with at the same moment.
It is expected that the fifth generation technology will generate more than 6.5 billion dollars in commercial opportunities for technology and communications companies in the country by 2026.
