The Saudi Public Investment Fund bought shares of British Telecom through the open market in recent weeks.

According to ArabiaNet, the British Telegraph newspaper reported that the stake was less than 5%, which required notification of the stock exchange.

During the past week, the investment fund announced that it has acquired a 2.33% stake in India's Geo Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, at a value of $ 1.5 billion.

British Telecom operates in Saudi Arabia through BT Saudi Arabia, a joint venture founded in 1989 between Prince Abdulaziz Al Saud and the British company.
