After four years of discussions and attempts, the Chedi Andmatt Hotel, owned by Egyptian billionaire Samih Sawiris, announced its willingness to receive payments in Bitcoin and Ethereum from customers in the coming period.< /p>
According to a report released on Saturday by a Swiss news organization, it is now possible for any visitor to a Chedi hotel who has paid more than $218 to pay using cryptocurrency.< /p>
The hotel will convert the payments to the traditional paper form of money and record it in its books in the traditional form to avoid any risk of rapid change in the value of cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin trading or mining in the Arab Republic of Egypt is a legal breach that requires punishment and imprisonment.
The hotel's general manager, Jean-Yves Platt, said: "We've known for a long time that cryptocurrencies will have a future in hotel operations, and in the growing frenzy of accepting coin payments. With digital currency, we are proud to be one of the first luxury Swiss hotels to offer cryptocurrency payments for the convenience of our customers.
The Chedi Andmatt Hotel was first opened in 2013 and has 123 rooms and suites and rates are CHF1,300 per night in high season, which is approximately 0.03 Bitcoin or 0.45 Ethereum.
