Sales of new cars in Britain decreased by 40% during the month of March due to the repercussions of the Coruna epidemic.

According to Reuters, sales were about 240,000 units, marking the weakest performance for March - usually one of the highest two months in terms of sales during the year since 1999.

Prime Minister Boris Hounson ordered the suspension of most economic activities last month as his government sought to slow the spread of the Coruna virus. March accounted for about 20 percent of total car registrations in 2019.

Car sales in Britain have fallen since hitting a record high in 2016. The Automobile Manufacturers and Distributors Association, in its latest estimate published in January, predicts that year-on-year demand will drop more than 2.5 percent to 2.25 million cars.
