The consumer price index (inflation rate) in Saudi Arabia increased by 1.2% in January 2022 compared to January 2021, while the index came in the same percentage recorded in December 2021.

According to Arabiya Net, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics, in a report, attributed the rise to an increase in transport prices by 4.9%, and food and beverage prices by 2%.

She indicated that the transportation department was affected by the increase in gasoline prices by 34.5%, and the rise of this section had a significant impact on the increase in annual inflation due to its weight in the index.

The food and beverage section was affected by a 2.3% increase in food prices, which was affected by a 10% increase in vegetable prices.

The furnishing and home furnishings section increased by 1.2%, affected by the increase in the prices of furniture, carpets and floor coverings by 1.9%, while the education section recorded a rise by 6.3%, affected by the increase in the prices of furniture, carpets and floor coverings by 1.9%. Middle and secondary education prices are 15.3%.

The consumer price index for the month of January was relatively stable compared to December 2021, rising by 0.2%, and was affected by the increase in the food and beverages section by 0.4%.
