The Sudanese Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Jamal Omar, died in the State of South Sudan on Wednesday morning, following a heart attack, according to preliminary information obtained by Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath. p>

The Sudanese authorities are expected to start arrangements for the removal of the body to Khartoum, at a time when negotiations in Juba between the Sudanese government and armed struggle movements have been suspended.

It is mentioned that Omar was appointed as a minister in the new cabinet in the transitional government, the first civilian government after the ouster of the Bashir regime in September 2019.

Since March 2017, he has served as the head of the Military Intelligence Authority, then appointed a member of the Transitional Military Council that took power after Bashir was removed, succeeding Lieutenant General Mustafa Muhammad Mustafa who resigned From the membership of the Council.

While serving on the staff of the Military Council, he held the position of Chairman of the Security and Defense Committee of the Council, before his dissolution on August 18th, with the formation of the Sovereignty Council.
