Airbus incurred 1.1 billion euros in losses due to the Corona pandemic that stopped the world's planes from operating in 2020, coinciding with the delay by airlines of receiving aircraft or buying new ones.

According to Arabiya Net, the company's quarterly profits before taxes and interest decreased by 35%, to reach about 1.8 billion euros.

The decline in profits came due to a decrease in the quarterly revenues of 20% to 19.8 billion euros.

The company has warned of the uncertainties associated with the Corona pandemic and the travel sector, which strongly affects new orders for aircraft, as the company seeks to deliver more than five hundred and sixty aircraft this year, the same number of aircraft delivered last year.

At the end of last year, Airbus CEO Geum Fawry said that the aviation industry may not return to pre-crisis levels until 2025.

Fawry told an online aviation industry conference that Europe was late in adopting a unified approach to border opening and passenger screening.

The International Air Transport Association warned earlier last year that airlines are about to lose a total of $ 157 billion in the current and next years, making a new reduction in its forecast for the sector in light of the major markets affected by a second wave of Coronavirus infections and closures aimed at containing the pandemic. / p>

It is expected that the total job cuts of the company will reach at least 15 thousand jobs, while it is making every effort to reduce costs without resorting to mandatory layoffs, but it does not guarantee that this will not happen.

Airlines have slowed deliveries of new aircraft as air travel rates have fallen to a fraction of their normal level due to restrictions and passenger concerns linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.
