US-based Uber raised the prices of some of its services in Egypt on Tuesday, due to higher fuel prices.
According to an email sent to its customers, Uber X and Uber Comfort fare prices have increased in Cairo and Alexandria.
The base ticket price for an UberX ride in Cairo has increased from EGP 7.50 to EGP 8, and the price per kilometer to EGP 3.05 from EGP 2.85.
The base fare for the most luxurious Uber Comfort has risen from 11 pounds to 11.80 pounds, and the price per kilometer from 4 pounds to 4.30 pounds.
For an UberX ride in Alexandria, the new base price is 8 EGP from 7.25 EGP, and 2.90 EGP per kilometer from 2.60 EGP previously, Al-Ahram reported.
This is the second time that Uber has raised the prices of its services in Egypt in 2021.
Uber's announcement comes a few weeks after Egypt's fuel price-setting committee slightly raised fuel prices for the first time since its formation in October 2019, after Egypt completed reforms Fuel subsidy.
The new prices are 6.75 pounds for 80-octane petrol, 8 pounds for 92-octane petrol, and 9 pounds for 95-octane petrol.
Uber raised its prices in Egypt last May, after the country's price-setting committee raised fuel prices slightly in April for the first time since the completion of fuel subsidy reforms. .
In April, the Committee raised gasoline prices by 25 piasters per liter as part of the Committee's implementation of the automatic pricing mechanism for petroleum products on a quarterly basis.
