The inflation rate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia increased by 0.3% during August 2021, compared to the same month in 2020.

According to Arabiya Net, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics said that the increase is due to an increase in transportation prices by 6.5%, and food and beverage prices by 1.9%.

The Food and Beverage section recorded an increase of 1.9%, affected by an increase in food prices by 2%. The tobacco section recorded an increase of 0.6%, affected by the increase in cigarette prices by 1.3%.

The miscellaneous personal goods and services section also increased by 0.3%, affected by the increase in the prices of fees for maid application costs, including visa fees, by 4.7%.

The restaurants and hotels section increased by 0.6%, affected by the increase in the prices of hotel services and furnished apartments by 2.4%.

This comes as the education department decreased by 7.8%, affected by decreases in the prices of pre-primary and primary education by 13.4%, and middle and secondary education by 7.2%, as well as the decline in the prices of pre-primary and primary education by 7.2%. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels decreased by 3.5%, affected by a 4.2% drop in housing rental prices.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index was relatively stable during August 2021, increasing by 0.1% compared to July 2021.
