The tourism sector in Dubai is booming with the approaching opening of the Expo 2020 in Dubai, as one of the major hotel companies has received confirmed reservations exceeding millions of dirhams for attending the exhibition's activities, and not for the purpose of tourism.

According to Arab Net, the regional director of Hyatt Hotels Group in Dubai and general manager of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Fathi Khojaly, said that the pace of hotel reservations for Expo 2020 Dubai has accelerated. During the recent period, he pointed out that nine Hyatt Group hotels in Dubai have so far registered confirmed reservations worth more than 11 million dirhams.

Khojli added that these reservations are linked to the presence of the Expo only, and do not include other reservations for leisure tourism for local visitors or international tourists, noting that the group's hotels have received many reviews. Requests from companies, delegations of countries and individuals to attend the exhibition, according to the Emirates Today newspaper.

He explained that, with the fair's activities approaching, reservations would increase at an even greater rate over the next few days.

Khojli said that the group's hotels in Dubai recorded strong performance levels last July, and continued to grow during this August, noting that they achieved revenues in August that exceeded levels before COVID-19 pandemic, compared to the same period in 2019.

This was considered a strong indication of the rapid growth and recovery of the hotel sector in Dubai, especially with the approach of Expo 2020 Dubai.

Khojli explained that the bulk of bookings for Expo 2020 Dubai are for long-term stays of more than a week, which is another positive indicator that will be reflected in the high length of stay of guests, And on the average occupancy, the price of one room, in addition to the expected return.

Khojli stressed that the future expectations of the Hyatt group indicate that the performance of the hotel sector will approach and exceed pre-pandemic levels, in light of the demand for exhibitions and major events hosted by Dubai. And the usual active tourism movement that the emirate attracts during this period of the year.
