The harsh winter weather has halted the production of millions of barrels of oil in the United States, after snow covered parts of the US state of Texas, while North Dakota is witnessing a wave of severe cold.
According to a report published by Bloomberg, it is expected that production will not return to normal levels for weeks.
During the past week, production across America decreased by about 10 million barrels, according to Bloomberg.
The report estimates the volume of halted production in the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico at about 6 million barrels, while the volume of halted production in Bakken, North Dakota, is about 3.5 million barrels.
The report explained that extremely low temperatures beautify the water in oil wells, leading to the cessation of production.
Icy roads also make it difficult for vacuum trucks used to transport wastewater to reach drilling rigs.
