US stocks rose yesterday, Wednesday, gaining momentum from the strength of major company stocks, but the gains were limited before the release of reports on inflation and the results of the operations of major banks later this week.
According to preliminary data, the Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up 26.95 points, or 0.57 percent, to 4,783.45 points, and the Nasdaq Composite index gained 111.94 points, or 0.75 percent, to record 14,969.65 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 57 points, or 0.45 percent, to 37,695.73 points.
