European stocks closed lower on Monday, as investors in the region prepared to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The STOXX 600 index ended trading, down by 0.5 percent at 474 points, with the main stock exchanges and most sectors declining in negative territory.
The FTSE 100 index fell by 0.4 percent, losing 30 points, recording a level of 7,594 points.
The German DAX index fell by approximately 0.5 percent, losing 82 points, at 16,622 points.
Preliminary figures published by the National Statistics Agency showed that the German economy contracted by 0.3 percent in 2023.
The French CAC index fell by 0.7 percent, recording 7,411 points.
