Saudi Arabia's holdings of US Treasury bonds rose by 22.5% year-on-year by the end of May 2024.
According to monthly data from the US Treasury Department, the Kingdom’s holdings of bonds amounted to $136.3 billion by the end of last May, compared to $111.3 billion by the end of the same month in 2023, an increase of $25 billion.
On a monthly basis, Saudi Arabia's holdings of US Treasury bonds increased by $900 million by the end of May compared to the previous month, reaching $135.4 billion by the end of April 2024.
Saudi Arabia ranked 17th globally in the list of the largest investors in US Treasury bonds by the end of May 2024.
Japan topped the list of the largest investors in US Treasury bonds by the end of May 2024, with a total of $1,128. billion ($1.128 trillion), followed by China with investments amounting to $768.3 billion, then the United Kingdom with $723.4 billion.
For the United States, the total value of bond issues increased by 9% by the end of May 2024.
The value of US Treasury bond issues amounted to $8,129 billion ($8.12 trillion) by the end of last May, compared to $7,458 billion at the end of the same month in 2023.
