Cui Tiankai, the Chinese ambassador to the United States, said that Beijing is still implementing the first stage of a trade agreement between the two countries.

According to Reuters, Coy expressed hope that the two countries could cooperate to assess the changing situation and coordinate their response.

Cui said the Global Times, a newspaper of the Chinese-controlled People's Daily, said Beijing was still buying US agricultural products and lifting some restrictions facing foreign companies entering its financial market.

"We also hope that the economic teams of the two countries can sit together or hold a video conference to assess the changing situation and coordinate our response," he said.
