The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have announced that they are ready to assist member states in tackling the challenges of the spread of the Coruna virus, including through emergency financing.

According to Reuters, the two institutions said in a joint statement that they focused specifically on poor countries with weaker health systems, and urged member states to strengthen health systems to monitor and respond to the containment of the virus.

"International cooperation is essential to deal with the health and economic impacts of the Covid-19 virus," the statement said, referring to Corona. He added that the IMF and the World Bank are fully committed to supporting these efforts.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development warned on Monday that the spread of the virus was pushing the global economy into its worst downturn since the global financial crisis, and urged governments and central banks to take countermeasures to avoid a steeper fall.

The IMF said it has tools and facilities to help tackle the economic impact of the Coronavirus.

International Monetary Fund spokesman Jerry Rice said on Thursday that the IMF had not received any requests for assistance.
