New York Digital Investment Group is partnering with the Houston Rockets basketball franchise, with the goal of planning to pay the US team in bitcoin.

In an announcement Tuesday, the Houston Rockets said New York Digital Investment Group (NYDIG) will become the team's official Bitcoin (BTC) services platform and partner.

As part of the partnership, New York Digital plans to name some of the premium seats in the Rockets at the Toyota Center in Houston Bitcoin Suites.

The deal with (New York Digital) appears to be part of a larger strategy for Rockets owner, Tilman Fertita, who is also chairman and CEO of Landry's Restaurant Group.

Last week, the company announced that it would introduce a bitcoin rewards program to its restaurants and is already rolling out bitcoin payment options.

Through Landrys and other ventures, Fertita is valued at $6.3 billion, and he also owns a few hotels and five casino resorts across the United States.
