Electric car sales in Europe for the first time historically outperformed sales of their diesel counterpart last December, with many European governments moving to support the auto sector Low emissions.

According to a Financial Times report, 176,000 battery electric cars were sold in Western Europe last December, 16,000 more cars than diesel cars. These sales are the highest ever.

Diesel car sales have fallen steadily since the Volkswagen scandal in which the company cheated diesel emissions tests on 11 million vehicles.

It is noteworthy that despite these declines in sales, the German company maintained its position as the largest producer of electric cars in Western Europe last year, selling more than 310,000 copies working on Batteries in the region during 2021, out of a total of 3.5 million cars.
