Three provinces in China have ordered a halt to cryptocurrency mining, joining a growing list of states ordering amid a nationwide crackdown against the activity.

As reported by Chinese journalist Colin Wu, the county departments of the China State Grid Corporation in Henan and Gansu will shut down local mining activities in those counties.
Wu told CoinDesk that the two regional government network departments are implementing a decision made by the state-owned company late last month. The notification from State Grid headquarters calls on counties to clean up and eliminate crypto-mining farms that consume electricity from the national grid.
Wu wrote that more provinces are expected to follow suit.
China's National Energy Administration has warned that electricity demand in Anhui will exceed its supply starting in 2022, Hefei Online reported.
At the May meeting of China's State Council, ministers discussed a crackdown on crypto-mining networks, followed by a move by provinces, provinces and cities against the industry since then.
