A senior official announced on Monday that the Federal Authority for Nuclear Supervision in the UAE has issued an operating license for the first reactor at the Barakah nuclear plant.

According to Reuters, Hamad al-Kaabi, the vice chairman of the authority, told a press conference that the license granted to the plant's operator, Nawat Power, is 60 years.


Baraka is the first nuclear plant in the Gulf region, and upon completion it will include four reactors with a total capacity of 5,600 megawatts.
