The losses of US billionaire Elon Musk exceeded $ 100 billion during 2022, with Tesla shares falling to their lowest level in two years.

According to Arabia Net, Elon Musk's net loss amounted to $100.5 billion this year, and this is the largest loss for a person in the wealth index.

That compares with Musk's record $340 billion over a year ago.

The Tesla co-founder remains the richest person in the world with a fortune of $169.8 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, even after seeing his net worth shrink by $8.6 billion on Monday.

And if the total loss in Elon Musk's wealth is calculated from its peak, this means the erasure of approximately $170 billion, or more than half of his wealth.

Tesla, the electric car maker, makes up the bulk of his fortune, which is grappling with growing Covid-related restrictions in China, its largest market outside the United States.

The Austin, Texas-based company recently announced a recall of more than 300,000 vehicles due to defective taillights, while also dealing with supply chain crises and rising raw material costs.

On Monday, Tesla shares fell to the lowest level since November 2020, down 52% this year.

That compares with a 29% drop in the high-tech Nasdaq 100 index.
