Kuwaiti Oil Minister Khalid Al-Fadil said that Kuwait and Saudi Arabia started yesterday, Sunday, the experimental pumping of oil from the fields of abundance and Khafji that the two countries jointly manage.

Al-Fadil was quoted by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) as saying that the experimental production of the two fields in the divided area will increase gradually until it reaches its normal levels.

He added that the volume of joint production in the divided region will reach before the end of the current year to approximately 550 thousand barrels per day. Production from this region is divided between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Al-Fadil also said that Kuwait is now aiming to increase its oil production capacity to 4 million barrels per day by 2040.

Last year, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia agreed to end a five-year dispute over the divided region, allowing for the resumption of production in the two fields the two countries share in managing, which can pump what Up to 0.5% of the world's oil supply.
