The Dow Jones Index achieves a new record close

US indices closed with collective gains in Tuesday's session as interest rate cut fever dominated trading despite the US Federal Reserve's policymakers trying to curb this excessive optimism.

Atlanta Fed President Rafael Bostic said on Tuesday that there is no urgency to start cutting interest rates, given the strength of the economy and the slow rate at which inflation is falling toward the central bank's annual target of 2%.

However, financial markets have estimated a 68% probability that the central bank will cut its interest rate target by 25 basis points at its March monetary policy meeting.

Performance of major US indices:

The Dow Jones Index rose by about 0.7%, or 252 points, in Tuesday’s session, recording the ninth daily gain in a row and closing above 37,500 points for the first time in its history.

The S&P 500 index also rose by 0.6% to close at 4768 points, amid a collective rise in the main sectors, with the energy index achieving the largest gains of 1.4% in conjunction with the rise in oil prices.

The Nasdaq Composite Index rose by about 0.7%, achieving the ninth daily gain in a row, closing above 15,000 points for the first time since January 2022.

Trading volume on US stock exchanges reached 11.6 billion shares, compared to an average of 12 billion during the last 20 sessions.

Boeing shares

Boeing stock rose 1.2% in Tuesday’s session to close near its highest levels since March 2021, with the company adding about $2 billion to its market value in one day.

These gains came after Lufthansa revealed that it had ordered 40 737-8 MAX aircraft from the plane maker.
This order is the German airline's first purchase of narrow-body Boeing aircraft in nearly 30 years.

Pinterest Stocks:

Pinterest stock rose 0.9% in Tuesday's session, recording its ninth straight daily gain, closing at its highest levels in two years.

These gains came after ARK Invest, affiliated with American investor Cathie Wood, revealed that it had increased its stake in the photo-sharing platform's shares by about $8 million.
