Bitcoin fell on Tuesday, coming under increasing pressure from deteriorating risk appetite as hopes faded for a US-Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The digital currency also came under additional pressure after Strategy&, the world’s largest holder of Bitcoin, announced it was selling more of its holdings.
Bitcoin fell 1.7% to $64,026.30, briefly dipping below the $64,000.00 mark.
A strategic company sells Bitcoin worth $109 million
Strategy& revealed on Monday that it sold 1,690 bitcoins for a total of $109 million. The company also reported raising an additional $653.10 million from the sale of 6.69 million shares of its common stock.
The company directed all proceeds from the sale of Bitcoin towards repurchasing 1.15 million shares of its preferred stock, known as STRC.
The disclosure issued on Monday represents the fifth sale of strategic company Bitcoin holdings this year, as the company seeks to provide the necessary liquidity to pay off its accumulated debts and meet its dividend obligations.
Strategy Inc.’s massive Bitcoin inventory, which stood at 840,447 coins after the latest sale, was funded primarily through debt and preferred stock issuances.
Bitcoin mining company Riot signs a $9.1 billion AI deal with Anthropic
On Monday, Riot, a Bitcoin mining company, revealed that it had struck a $9 billion deal with a leading artificial intelligence lab to provide computing capabilities.
Bloomberg later reported that the lab in question was Anthropic, sending Riot's shares soaring by about 25% in after-hours trading on Monday.
The Anthropic deal, which will span 20 years, overshadowed Riot's heavy losses during the quarter ending in June, as the decline in Bitcoin prices hurt its mining profit margins.
The company has developed plans to shift from Bitcoin mining to providing computing services for artificial intelligence.

Cryptocurrency prices fell broadly, impacted by Bitcoin's decline on Tuesday, amid waning optimism about reaching an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, after both the United States and Iran adopted hardline stances regarding any potential deal.
Ethereum, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency, fell 2.8% to $1,873.81, while XRP declined 2.6%.
Solana and Cardano fell by 1.5% and 5.2% respectively, while BNP declined by 0.7%.
In the meme currency market, Dogecoin remained virtually unchanged, while Trump rose by 0.9%.
