Stocks in Japan closed higher at the end of trading on Tuesday, with the indices rising, and gains were recorded in the real estate, banking and financial and textile sectors.

At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 closed up 0.14%.

Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 today were Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902), which rose 5.72% or 36.70 points to close at 678.40. Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) also saw gains, rising 4.61% or 222.00 points to finish at 5,033.00, while Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (TYO:4507) climbed 4.60% or 123.50 points to close at 2,808.50.

As for the worst performers at the close of trading, Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704) shares closed down 4.09%, or 291.00 points, at 6,820.00. Nintendo Co Ltd (TYO:7974) shares fell 3.41%, or 420.00 points, to 11,900.00, while Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) shares closed down 2.68%, or 63.00 points, at 2,285.00.

The number of stocks that declined exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher in trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 2,201 compared to 1,354, while 275 remained unchanged.

Shares of Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704) fell to a 52-week low, declining 4.09% or 291.00 points to 6,820.00. Shares of Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) climbed to a 52-week high, rising 4.61% or 222.00 points to 5,033.00. Shares of Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (TYO:4507) climbed to a 3-year high, adding 4.60% or 123.50 points to 2,808.50.

The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied standard volatility of options on the Nikkei 225 index, traded 0.11% higher and closed at 28.35.

WTI crude oil futures for January delivery fell 0.25%, or $0.15, to settle at $58.73 a barrel. In other commodities trading, Brent crude oil futures for February delivery declined 0.19%, or $0.12, to $62.37 a barrel, while February gold futures fell 0.20%, or $8.25, to close at $4,209.45 an ounce.

The USD/JPY pair added 0.08% and traded at 155.99, while the EUR/JPY pair continued its rise by about 0.15% and reached 181.64.

Dollar index futures traded down 0.02% at 99.04.
