Stocks in Japan closed higher at the end of trading on Tuesday, with the indices rising, and gains were recorded in the real estate, banking and financial and textile sectors.
At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.77%.
Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 today were Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004), which rose 6.95% or 557.00 points to close at 8,576.00. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) also saw gains, rising 5.85% or 1,380.00 points to finish at 24,955.00, while Nissui Corp (TYO:1332) climbed 4.45% or 55.50 points to close at 1,303.50.
As for the worst performers at the close of trading, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501) shares closed down 7.92%, or 52.40 points, at 609.60. Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:5631) shares fell 3.49%, or 311.00 points, to 8,601.00, while Suzuki Motor Corp. (TYO:7269) shares closed down 3.48%, or 76.00 points, at 2,106.50.
The number of stocks that declined exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher in trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 1,934 compared to 1,617, while 263 remained unchanged.
Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004) shares climbed to a record high, adding 6.95% or 557.00 points to reach 8,576.00. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) shares also reached an all-time high, gaining 5.85% or 1,380.00 points to close at 24,955.00. Nissui Corp (TYO:1332) shares likewise hit an all-time high, rising 4.45% or 55.50 points to 1,303.50.
The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied standard volatility of options on the Nikkei 225 index, traded up 9.19% and closed at 34.57, marking its lowest level in a month.
WTI crude oil futures for March delivery fell 0.20%, or $0.12, to settle at $60.51 a barrel. In other commodities trading, Brent crude oil futures for April delivery declined 0.31%, or $0.20, to $64.57 a barrel, while April gold futures slipped 0.04%, or $2.19, to close at $5,120.11 an ounce.
The USD/JPY pair added 0.22% and traded at 154.50, while the EUR/JPY pair continued its rise by about 0.17% and reached 183.44.
Dollar index futures traded 0.09% higher at 96.94.
